  • HOW TO TEACH
    THE 1-2-3 GAME

    1. Choose your moment wisely
Teach the game without distractions around. Once the game is fluent, then gradually increase distractions.

    2. Teach what the numbers predict
Stay still where you are and keep your hands empty. Call “three!” with some extra oomph.

    3. Go get your treats
Promptly head to wherever the nearest treats are located and grab a few small treats per pet.

    4. Feed the treats to your dog(s)
Scatter treats on the ground to encourage sniffing. Toss treats in opposite directions with multiple pets.

    5. Repeat until well conditioned
Repeat steps 1-4 a few times a day until your pet is swiftly turning & coming to you when you call “three!”

    6. Teach what the numbers predict
Be still and keep your hands empty. Call “two,” pause a moment, then “three!” with extra oomph.

    7. Go get your treats

    8. Feed the treats to your pet(s)

    9. Repeat until well conditioned

    10. Count all the way to three
Keep your hands empty. When your pet isn’t already paying attention, call “one, two” pause, and “three!”

    11. Go get your treats

    12. Feed the treats to your dog(s)

    13. Repeat until well conditioned

    14. Slowly add distractions
Start with low level distractions. If they don’t respond, bring the treats to your pet after “three!” regardless and reduce the intensity of distractions next time.
